Throw Away Pets:
IGUANAS ARE
THE NEW AGE THROW AWAY PET. IGUANAS ARE THE HOTTEST SELLING ANIMAL IN A PET STORE. BUT 90% OF IGUANAS BOUGHT OUT OF PET STORES DIE IN 6 MONTHS.
EITHER FROM THE PET STORE NOT PROPERLY GIVING OUT CARE INFORMATION OR THEY ARE ALREADY SICK
FROM NOT BEING PROPERLY CARED FOR.
IMPORTANT......WHEN YOU FIRST BUY AN IGUANA IF THE PET STORE TOLD YOU IT WOULD COST AT LEAST
100 DOLLARS OR MORE TO PROPERLY HOUSE A 15 DOLLAR IGUANA, NO ONE WOULD WANT IT. BUT THAT IS THE REALITY OF BEING AN IGUANA OWNER IT IS COSTLY. JUST LIKE ANY OTHER
ANIMAL.
IF THE IGUANA MAKES
IT THE NEXT PROBLEM IS PEOPLE DO NOT REALIZE HOW BIG THEY GET. THEY GET 6 FT AND CAN LIVE FOR 15 YRS IF PROPERLY CARED FOR. BELIEVE IT OR NOT THEY CAN BE JUST AS LOVING AS A CAT OR DOG. BUT JUST LIKE
WITH ANY OTHER ANIMAL THEY HAVE TO BE TRAINED. IT TAKES TIME TO TAME THEM.
Next Question..... DO YOU HAVE THE TIME ?
Important thoughts:
To take a sick Iguana
to the vet. is costly. So most people just let them suffer. My
motto is you bought it, you take care of it. Iguanas can be very loving like other pet, with the right owner. Most people do not keep them long enough
to learn that. With an Iguana the owner needs to take about 20 minutes a day with it to get them use to you and use to being handled. I handle "Jasper,"
all the time and so he is alot
tamer than many iguanas. When I got him I found out how much patience that you need. The poor baby fought me over and over
but I kept holding him, loving him and talking softly to him. I never lost my cool. They are like any other animal they sence
fear. When most people buy an Iguana they put it in the tank and that is where they stay. That is so wrong. They just
get mean and irratable like a dog left out on a leash or a cat locked in a room.
There are places
all over th world that rescue iguanas that need a home. They find homes for them through iguana adoptions. One such place
is in Louisiana. Anyone out side of the area needing a home for an Iguana can ship it at cost to them. They will make sure
they are healthy and then put them up for adoption to someone that can afford the cost of owning it. Here is one place I know
of and will list more on another page.
